Starting from a simple question “What is marketing?”
Our marketing professor also asked the same question in first session of marketing and got so many difference answer viz. marketing means satisfying need of consumer, Force customer to buy things which are not necessary for them, Convince the customer (which was my answer..) and many more. After getting 15-17 answers on what is marketing sir politely replied you all are perfectly or partially correct. This is called “Marketing” as per book.
But if you ask the same question to any sales person or sales manager or marketing manager their answer will be different from student’s answer but mostly same in their sense. According to this all people marketing means only “SALES” means only “figures and numbers”. They forget the difference between marketing and sales. They said that both are same but it is not.
For understanding real meaning of marketing I recommend you to watch a movie “Rocket Singh Salesman”. A just 2 hour movie is enough to explain the whole marketing field.
In this movie it is precisely shown that marketing is not only about sales and only numbers and figures. Marketing is all about “Winning heart of customer”. No figures, No numbers just served your customer what his wants..that’s it .
I still remember that ranbir kapoor’s dialogue to his boss, ”dhandhe me na hee koi scheme hoti hai nahi kuch hota hai, hote hai to bus apne jasie log. jo maine kuch aur nazariye se dekha aur aapne kuch aur. Jo kuch bhi maine sikha hai ussse me 10 nayi compniya khadi kar sakta hoon par aap ka kya hoga? Aap to gaye paani me”
And at last how can forget to add famous dialogue of this movie, “There is two types of qualities in each person one which takes him up and second which takes him down. Which one is winning where person goes.”
Some lyrics from its TitleTrack.
“Greed in my heart, lies in my ear
I can see on your wallet, jus looking in ur glare
My boss is on my back, its target all is set.
Main hoon bada busy, no time to even pee..”
“Haath ka meyl paisa.. nasha fir kyun aisa..
Tata Birla kaisa, tere mere jaisa”
“Ho mehangi hai kalyug mein daal pyaare..
EMI se hai bura haal pyaare..
Neendon mein bhi jaati nahi..
Bechne ki hai bimaari re..”
